This is my incomplete storyboard for my final FMP this year, i am working on as writing this so it isn't done.
I enjoy how it looks so far and am close to finishing it, once complete i look forward to compiling the frames together in a timeline to then start animating it.
My final FMP is an animation where I attempted to reanimate a scene from Dragon Ball Z.
I chose this scene to reanimate because it had a strong connection to my theme: Transformation.
I did meet the deadline set for my FMP, I set out to recreate the famous scene in which Gohan transforms into a powerful state dubbed super saiyan 2 to overpower Cell.
I believe I achieved this, I think that it looks passable and decently choreographed with varying shots with sound effects, music and added colour to visualize the aura surrounding my character.
I stayed behind after college to continue to work on it a couple of extra hours, around 2-3. This was difficult for me however as I experienced hand and wrist pains while drawing frames.
I believe this reaches my target audience which is 13+ as it shows wild and explosive imagery with powerful states accomplished through anger and sorrow, along with use of the vibrant golden yellow.
I framed certain shots with having the camera behind them or above them, slowly zooming in, adding suspense.
I used Premiere Pro to add sound effects to my animation after I had exported it. I used a plethora of sounds that I had downloaded from YouTube, some of which were also used in the original scene.
I placed them accordingly to keep the pace smooth and made it so the sound was not peaking over a certain level to avoid hearing damage or inaudibility.
I also used it to add the main backing track in the animation named ‘Gohan's Anger’, A powerful track showing the somber nature of the character while also showing off their immense strength.
I used a pc and a Huion drawing tablet to create this animation along with 3 software: Photoshop to create the storyboard, Adobe Animate to create the visuals and Premiere Pro to add the SFX to the exported video.
I used the ‘brush’ tool to draw out scenes in a storyboard template I had imported into Photoshop so I could visualise what I wanted and needed to draw next.
I used a lot of the ‘Onion Skin’ tool in Adobe Animate to see what came before in my drawing process, which saved a lot of time. i also used frames I had already drawn prior further up in my animation to save on time, not needing to redraw what I've already done
I also used the ‘Cut’ tool to stretch certain scenes to be longer, improving the timing, in Premiere Pro, which helped in the editing process.
The original scene itself inspired me a lot, along with other media that I enjoy. I wanted to try and capture the original feeling from the scene, which I reanimated in hopes of making something special to watch.
The choice of sound and music also influenced my editing process as I used similar sounds in my final production.
I think the smear frames I included helped a lot in making the movement, along with the sound effects that accompanied the animation; they all clicked together to make the watching experience a lot better and exciting.
However, Some things did go wrong and some things were not to where I wanted them to be, such as in the exporting process in Adobe Animate, I was not able to export it as a video file which could be imported into premiere pro, instead it would export as a flash file, and changing the file type would not work as i got the error ‘Install Adobe Media Encoder’.
Instead, I had to export it as a GIF, which shortened it down and then had to use a 3rd party website to transform it into an MP4 file, which could be used in Premiere Pro.
Other issues include the lack of colour, which I was unable to add dude to time constraints, along with shading and better line work, as a lot of it looks rough and stiff, while some scenes move, most of them are just idle shots.
Overall I am satisfied with my final product, despite some issues and am happy I was able to add as much as I could in such a short time frame, meeting my deadline, One of my main aims to achieve during this project was to better my time management to produce things on time and I think I achieved that somewhat.
